TypeBooks (“we”, “the app”) is a typing practice product that lets you type public-domain books. This policy explains what we collect and why — in plain language.
What we collect
- Account data — if you sign in with Google or email: name, email, and a user id from our auth provider (Firebase / Google).
- Practice progress — XP, levels, bookmarks, and page progress. Guests stay on-device; signed-in users may sync to the cloud so multiple devices stay aligned.
- Imported books (My books) — EPUB/TXT you import are stored in your browser (IndexedDB). If you are signed in and Storage is enabled, book text may sync to your private Firebase account storage for multi-device practice. We do not publish imported books. Max 30 books; you can delete them anytime.
- Basic technical logs — hosting (e.g. Vercel) may log IP, browser type, and request URLs for security and reliability.
How we use data
- Sign you in and keep you signed in
- Show your progress, levels, and saved books
- Operate, secure, and improve the app
- Respond if you contact us
We do not sell your personal data. We do not show third-party advertising in the app today.
Processors we use
- Google Firebase — authentication and optional progress sync
- Vercel — web hosting
- Google — if you choose “Continue with Google”
Their processing is governed by their own privacy policies.
Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage (and similar) for theme, settings, and progress. Auth sessions may use cookies or tokens managed by Firebase. We do not use advertising cookies.
Data retention
Account data is kept while your account exists. Device progress stays until you clear site data. You can ask us to delete account data (see Contact).
Children
TypeBooks is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices
- Use the app without an account (progress stays on the device)
- Sign out anytime
- Clear browser data for this site to remove local progress
- Request account deletion via the contact email below
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
